Research Educational

Fostering Curiosity, Cultivating Research Spring, Yielding Intelligence

The research seeks to discover and create new knowledge. As it comprises a core element of higher education, universities look for researchers and students with a high level of intellectual curiosity who hold the capacity to undertake independent and collaborative research. They aim to educate students to enable them to contribute to the world with their research findings and practical application to real-life issues.

Climate, Environment, and Sustainability are research themes of focus and the worldwide agendas these days as the globe suffers from industrial pollution, climate change, and social inequity. As the areas for future technological innovations and growth engines for the global economy, they are also cross-cutting themes applicable to various academic areas such as economics, finance, business, engineering, policies, and international relations. High school students' research engagement in such topics will provide a unique opportunity to develop and strengthen their research skills and lend them a competitive edge for college applications and future careers.

THEOHS’ research education aims to cultivate students’ research capacity and foster their understanding of the research process and value.

Purposes

The primary purposes of the THEOHS’ research education are:

  • To provide hands-on and high-quality research experience in environment, climate, and sustainability

  • To help students develop robust research skills, including data analysis, interpretation, and application

  • To prepare students to be ready for university-level research projects

Program

Throughout the THEOHS’ research education, students will:

  • Explore major issues in climate, environment, and sustainability by identifying their own research topics

  • Experience research process from hypothesis creation, data collection, data analysis, and findings discussion and interpretation

  • Learn about practices for collaborative team-based projects skills

  • Create intellectual research outcomes and write research-based articles

  • Articulate and communicate research findings by presenting their research

  • Present research outcomes at external research conferences, subject to the quality of the research and acceptance to such conferences
